Romania is located in the Southeastern part of Central Europe. It is the second largest country in the area and shares borders with Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, the Black Sea, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. The capital city is Bucharest and their flag is made up of three vertical stripes of red, yellow and blue.
The population is approximately 21,400,000 people who are made up of Romanian, Hungarian, Gypsy, German and other ethnic groups. They practice many different types of religion. The main religions are Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant.

Fagaras Fortress is another cool castle to visit. It was built by Transylvania princes and is one of the most well preserved medieval castles in Romania. This castle has 80 rooms, and is surrounded by a deep and wide moat, just like in the fairly tales!
Romania's leading Gothic church and famous landmark, the Black Church, is located in the city of Brasov. It got its nickname after its walls were blackened by the Great Fire of 1689. Besides Brasov, there are many medieval towns which are full of history.
Like to ski, hike, climb, bike and river-raft? Then you need to visit the Carpathian Mountains. These mountains extend over 600 miles in Romania the the shape of an arch. Besides the mountain range activities, you may also enjoy the many lakes and rivers. Don't forget the Black Sea!
One of the most picturesque treasures of Romania is the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. Their exterior walls are painted with elaborate portraits which vary from saints and prophets, scenes from the life of Jesus, images of angels and demons, and heaven and hell. They are truly unique and very old!
Influential People of Romania:
One of the most well known and remembered people from Romania is Nadia Camaneci. She was the first Olympic champion in the world to receive the score of a perfect "10" in the history of gymnastics. She received this award in the Olympic games in Montreal in 1976. She gave new meaning to the words "stick the landing"!
